I received my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from the University of Iowa in 2000. Until now, most of my nursing career has been spent in primary care clinic nursing and school nursing. While a school nurse, I noted a great need for mental health care and a lack of access in my community. The students I served as a school nurse became my “why” for continuing my advanced practice nursing education. After four years of doctoral studies, in August of 2023, I received my Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from the University of Iowa, where I was dual enrolled in their pediatric primary care and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner programs. Now, as a board-certified psychiatric mental health and pediatric primary care nurse practitioner, my journey has led me to practice pediatric psychiatry, filling the gap in care that was evident years ago.

A lifelong desire to help others, courage, radical love, and resilience have brought me here today. My non-traditional path to becoming a psychiatric care provider was paved with diverse career and life experiences. I received my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from the University of Iowa in 2000. Until 2016, my nursing experience included time spent in obstetrics, mother/baby home care, and hospital inpatient care. From 2016 to 2024, I owned and operated Healing Tree in Spencer, IA. As a licensed massage therapist and Karuna(R) Reiki master/teacher, I have enjoyed working one-on-one with clients seeking relief from physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and/or energetic dis-ease. I also had the privilege of comforting hospice patients throughout Dickinson County from 2017 to 2022.

In August 2024, I earned my Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree from Frontier Nursing University in Versailles, KY. As a board-certified PMHNP, I have continued my studies within the field of integrative psychiatry. My true passion exists in the blending of traditional psychiatric care, evidence-based integrative treatments, and complementary therapies. In addition to psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and supportive psychotherapy, I utilize evidence-based methods involving mindfulness, nutrition, and movement. Complementary tools offered as part of an individualized treatment plan may include the use of essential oil therapy, Reiki, sound therapy, breath work, and/or nature-based therapy. We are all unique and complex creatures. I believe that mental health care deserves a whole human, patient-centered approach within a non-judgmental, safe, and therapeutic environment. I look forward to collaborating with you on your personal path to wellness!
